"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on the account of sex"
We're in 2022. We have yet to pass the major legislation known as the Equal Rights Amendment. I call on the vote to return to the people of America. To begin the process of having rights be protected.
This legislation helps to ensure women are treated fairly in divorce, property, employment, and beyond. The 14th amendment only implies the right against discrimination. This is the way to ensure it. In addition, it begins the true ability to a path forward on privacy rights of women.
The ERA is the beginning of legislation that can be used to establish a bill of rights to personal freedoms. This Amendment isn't just something to be applied to Men and Women, but to the LGBTQ+ community as well. It's a start
that we need to finally pass once and for all.
To support the LGBTQ+ community, we need to codify marriage equality once and for all as a national level decision and not one that is left to the states to decide. Financially and morally we owe it to the community to ensure the rights are protected. Further insuring that the right to privacy exists can help ensure laws such as the "sodomy law" cannot return and affect the community.
And certainly, we need to aim to right the wrong of years of neglect to the BIPOC communities. It starts with providing the best opportunities to them and going after predatory business practices that aim to harm the communities. It goes to ensuring that any public funds in police departments are used for non-biased training practiced and we check up to ensure this is actually met. It goes to ensuring an equal and fair shot at all opportunities, and not a weighted one that exists in industries now. Most importantly, it goes to make sure that the communities are not under funded. Here in Minnesota or anywhere else in America. Our resources are plenty, and they deserve to be served the same in Edina as they do Minneapolis, as Saint Paul, as Duluth. We have to break and end the barriers set up and focus on the truth. We have long deprived these communities. We must in turn, give it everything to build better than it was before.
